RE: OPPOSITION TO WOPR — (Alternative 2)
Dear Mr. Shepard,
The purpose of this correspondence is to express my strong opposition to the BLM’s proposed WOPR (Alternative 2) due to the lack of compelling evidence this plan revision will provide positive long-term economic or environmental benefits to the citizens of West Lane County.
The time is over for the ‘Boom or Bust’ mentality that has typically driven our northwest forest management practices. I would encourage a non-partisan adaptive incremental approach based upon traditional peer-reviewed science — this proposal falls well short of meeting these requirements.
The principle of ‘Doing No Harm’ must take precedent over any and all other factors associated with a decision of this magnitude.
Most Sincerely,
Bill Fleenor, Lane County Commissioner, West Lane County Oregon
